BOTOX

How do neuromodulators (Botox/Dysport/Nuceiva) work?

Neuromodulators work by blocking the nerve signal to a muscle, which then relaxes the muscle as well as the facial lines made by the muscle's action.  Dr. Harris' goal is to relax and soften lines but never to completely freeze muscle movement.

How long does the treatment last?

The treatment generally lasts 3-4 months, though there is some variability between clients.  There is also some variability between facial locations.

Where are neuromodulators most effective?

The most common and effective areas are the glabella (the '11' lines between the eyebrows), the forehead (horizontal lines), and sides of the eyes (crow's feet).

Where are neuromodulators not effective?

Neuromodulators will not improve lines due to volume loss or skin laxity (under eyelids, nasolabial folds, and corners of mouth).  These areas are better addressed with dermal filler.

What can I expect during a treatment?

Dr. Harris will first mark out the points to be injected.  Each point is injected using a very fine needle.  The procedure is very easily tolerated and takes five minutes or less.  The interesting thing about neuromodulators is that nothing happens for 3-5 days -- then the muscles start to relax and the lines dissipate.  The effect is fully reached at two weeks.

How much does a treatment cost?

The consultation is free.  Cost is based on the dose (units) and the specific neuromodulator that is used.

1. Botox: $14 per unit

2. Dysport $12 per unit

3. Nuceiva: $12 per unit

The minimum cost is $300 for a treatment.  The standard treatment cost is in the $500 range, but this varies depending on the neuromodulator used as well as the dosing.
